10 Reasons to Lose Weight With Apple Cider Vinegar

Start to Lose Weight With Apple Cider Vinegar

Have you been having a hard time losing weight? Is weight loss something you have attempted over and over again with little results? If so, you may not have heard of apple cider vinegar as a weight loss aid. As a matter of fact, if you open your pantry and there happens to be a bottle of apple cider vinegar, you have probably used these as a tasty addition to salad dressing, marinades and pickles. However, do you realize that it is a great way to help you lose weight as well? Throughout history, credit has been given to apple cider vinegar as an all-around cure from everything like warts to the flu. Many of its alleged benefits are not proven but it is thought by experts that adding a bit more of it to your life will benefit your health greatly.
Do It Like the Stars
If you haven’t already heard the news, Megan Fox mixes it with her water to get her system cleaned out and Miranda Kerr uses it as a salad dressing to help her stay slender. There are countless claims of this type of vinegar to help as a skin tonic and a powerful antioxidant that helps in cell protection. After all, when apples go through fermentation in vinegar, the potassium, calcium, beta carotene and other nutrients that still remain. The question is on everyone’s minds these days is, can apple cider vinegar truly help in weight loss?
Gradual Weight Loss is Better
Over the years, there have been more than a few diets that promise extremely rapid weight loss and these have been popular and faded away. One encouraging piece of information that does stand out is that gradual weight loss is the result of apple cider vinegar. If pounds were shed quickly, it would be ideal if you never saw them again. However, through experience we now know that weight lost fast does tend to make a fast come back. When a person loses weight, your body accommodates this by kicking in the response to make the weight come back in the soonest possible time. On the other hand if you are the type of person who is okay with weighting and does not really prefer rapid results, there is a greater chance that your fatty cells will be more willing to adjust to your gradual smaller size and not make an instant comeback. Aside from weight loss, did you know that apple cider vinegar has other health benefits? Check the list further down this article for these other health benefits. Using naturally fermented, raw and organic apple cider vinegar is much more preferable to other kinds.
Proven to Work
In Japan, a 2009 study was made to test a group of one hundred seventy-five obese people who had to take either water or apple cider vinegar for three months. All the participants kept food journals and had similar diets. At the end of the research, the ones who took vinegar lost a bit more weight. The vinegar group on average lost a couple more pounds over a period of three months. After the study was over, they gained all of it back. It is suggested by this study that vinegar might turn on specific genes that are responsible for fat breakdown. This may also be a subtle effect as it has some weight loss benefits but is not a quick fix. You will need to practice portion control and exercise for permanent weight loss to happen.
Drink Apple Cider Vinegar Before Meals
At the very start of the process of digestion, apple cider vinegar works to increase your interest in food and stimulate your appetite. You would not normally think of this as being the path you want to take when trying to lose weight. Keep in mind however that it works in a positive way supporting your effort since it increases interest in whole food. Vinegar is a well known taste bud stimulator. It is the secret ingredient in condiments, salad dressing and ketchup that keeps you returning for more of the same. When your taste buds work well, it becomes easy to appreciate the complex, wonderful flavor of whole food like beans, whole grains and vegetables. All these food groups help in regulating the levels of your blood sugar and help in improve metabolism. At the end of the day, you won’t fall easily for dieting busters like fat and salt.
Before Each Meal
When you think about it, there is a lot of sense when drinking apple cider vinegar before each meal when losing weight is the goal. Pectin is found in apples and when you drink pectin, you would tend to feel more satisfied with your meal sooner and feel much more full than when you don’t drink apple cider vinegar before meals. Believe it or not, there is the same amount of pectin that apple cider vinegar has compared to apples and in the same way as apples, your appetite is suppressed. In addition, other than the fact that it is similar to eating apples, this type of vinegar helps in protein digestion. The importance of digesting protein is due to the fact that protein happens to be some hormones’ building blocks to break down fatty cells.
Digestion is also stimulated when you drink this, as it reduces the time it takes for fat to remain in the tract for digestion. Your body gets the opportunity to take nutrients from food and remove any condition that leads to potentially life threatening diarrhea. In the same way, it is not healthy for food to stay too long in the intestines. If there are more fat than usual in your digestive tract, these may be absorbed.
When you drink apple cider vinegar before a meal, you will make sure that protein synthesis is guaranteed and this leads to thorough digestion of your food. Growth hormone formation is also encouraged when you thoroughly digest protein. This is the substance keeping the metabolism of your body going even as you rest. For this reason, before eating dinner, it is a good idea to drink apple cider vinegar.
Iron utilization is also improved by apple cider vinegar. Iron happens to be similar to fuel fire starter for the body and carries oxygen to cells as it holds it there. Apple cider vinegar acetic acid helps in releasing food iron and makes it available to be building blocks for hemoglobin which are oxygen carriers as well as myoglobin, which attract oxygen. In the body, it is essential for oxygen to burn energy as these are similar to fire burning in fireplaces. Iron utilization is increased by apple cider vinegar as this changes the way the body consumes energy. For weight loss, this makes apple cider vinegar more than essential.
If you have been wondering how to balance sodium in your diet, apple cider vinegar is the answer. A great potassium source, regularly taking apple cider vinegar contributes to needed potassium which helps in balancing dietary sodium. As a matter of fact if you make the wonderful decision to use apple cider vinegar instead of salt in your diet, such as on protein or vegetable food, this will do tremendous things in your diet. Less salt is always better as salt happens to increase water retention in your body and tempt you to eat more fattening food like meat substitutes, high fat meat, pastries or French fries than you would otherwise eat.
How Much Apple Cider Vinegar to Take?
When taking apple cider vinegar to lose weight, the recommendation is to take one glass of water with one to two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar daily. Drink this before meals thrice daily.
Folk Remedy for Weight Loss
For thousands of years, apple cider vinegar has been used as a weight loss remedy with no side effects known or detected. It is created from a process of fermenting apples twice. Since it prevents a rise in blood sugar, it is thought that people who take apple cider vinegar feel full ahead of people who don’t use it.
What Kind?
When you are serious about using apple cider vinegar for weight loss, you might feel confused about what kind to get. Find a product that says apple cider vinegar that is not distilled, pasteurized or filtered since important nutrients may become destroyed in these processes. If you see apple cider vinegar that is refined in the supermarket, this is not the kind to get. Again, unpasteurized and unfiltered vinegar is the one to select. Stevia taken with your apple cider vinegar may also help.
There are many reasons that apple cider vinegar is selected over other types of vinegar. Aside from the possibility of supporting weight loss, there are detoxifying qualities that apple cider vinegar has as well as strong properties of being anti-microbial. Apple cider vinegar is a helpful tonic for health that has revealed great promise in being an aid to acid reflux, digestion, free radical damage, high cholesterol, heart health, cancer and diabetes. The evidence points strongly to it being an aid to losing weight as well. If you really look at the facts, it can’t really hurt for you to include vinegar made from apples in your daily dietary regiment.
Dosage
Begin slowly. There are no side effects known when it comes to this product, but it is still better to start slow. Begin day one with just a tablespoon of diluted apple cider vinegar in water. If you have no issues regarding the taste, take two tablespoons the day after. On the third day, you can start to take two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before every meal. You can either add two tablespoons of honey or stevia to sweeten the taste, take it straight or take it diluted in water. As you take apple cider vinegar, you might want to help increase your rate of losing weight by doing exercises and dieting as well. Mix apple cider with olive oil if you want it to be easier to swallow. Also, in drug stores and supermarkets near you, check to see if there are capsules made of apple cider vinegar as these may be the kind that works best for you. For a quick and easy salad dressing and apple cider vinegar in one, combine this with salt, pepper and olive oil to use as salad dressing.
Remember that if you feel something is wrong throughout this whole process, make sure you consult your doctor and stop taking it immediately. If you happen to be on any type of medication, make sure your doctor knows that you plan to start taking apple cider vinegar for weight loss. Prolonged or excessive use includes low bone mineral density and low blood potassium. Also, before embarking on any type of weight loss program, make a consultation with your doctor as well. Keep in mind that all successful weight loss programs are not sudden but instead, are gradual. Don’t expect miraculous overnight results. Instead, give yourself time. Exercising and increasing the vegetables you eat is highly recommended.
Dietary Aid
Apple cider vinegar is a product that is not so expensive. It is probably this reason that is very popular as a folk remedy. Aside from helping aid lost weight, it is also credited with assisting in various conditions including insect bites, sunburn, acne, sore throats, sinus problems, leg cramps, upset stomach, high blood pressure, arthritis and osteoporosis. The way it works is that the composition of apple cider vinegar is made from apples that have been fermented and is thought to aid in losing weight through the improvement of insulin resistance. With this, liver, fat and muscles resist the hormone insulin and the blood sugar glucose which provide energy. In apple cider vinegar, the acetic acid interferes specifically with digestive enzymes that break down carbohydrates. This allows carbs to go undigested in the digestive tract. Also, as an appetite suppressant, apple cider vinegar has gained more and more popularity. One thing to keep in mind however is that there is no proof that by itself, apple cider vinegar needs to be combined with other supplements, help burn fat or speed up metabolism.

How to Lose Weight with Raspberry Ketones

Raspberry Ketones and Weight Loss

Raspberry ketones occur naturally.

What’s with all the excitement about raspberry ketones? Like many, the first time I heard about the wondrous ability of raspberry ketones to help facilitate weight loss, I was skeptical. I know there are supplements and natural ingredients out there that do help with weight loss, like Moringa, which I write about in "How to Lose Weight with Moringa," but I brushed off raspberry ketones as another superficial remedy.
I was wrong to do that. I revisited and researched the science behind the success of raspberry ketones after Dr. Oz endorsed them on his television show. It’s not every day that a public healthcare professional endorses a supplement. Dr. Oz did, and that’s what got me interested.
What follows is the culmination of weeks of research and experimentation of raspberry ketones myself. I’ve tried to break down the information into easy-to-understand categories, so you can quickly pinpoint what research has been done, how raspberry ketones is thought to work, what type of side effects are possible, and what you can expect if you start taking the supplement. I’m also including my diet regime and how I use raspberry ketones to help me lose weight.

Raspberry Ketones: What Are They, Anyway?

Raspberry ketones are aromatic compounds, extracted from the fruit of red raspberries, blackberries and, to a smaller degree, red cranberries. While this substance occurs naturally, what you get if you purchase raspberry ketone supplements is a synthetic version, that is chemically identical to the natural one. So, while the idea comes from nature, don’t make the mistake of thinking that the supplements you’re taking are completely natural. Before supplement manufacturers started marketing raspberry ketones for weight loss, these compounds were widely used to add fragrance to cosmetics and to foods. The FDA considers raspberry ketones to be safe for consumption as a flavor component.

Do Raspberry Ketones Help with Weight Loss?

Some skeptics are quick to point out that raspberry ketones are not proven in clinical tests to facilitate weight loss in humans. The key word there is “humans,” because in tests on rats, raspberry ketones has a very good track record of increasing fat metabolism. In a 2005 study, conducted by the Ehime University School of Medicine in Japan, rats were fed a high fat diet and given raspberry ketones at the same time. Not only did the rats not gain weight, they lost weight, despite their high fat diets. The study concluded that raspberry ketones increase fat metabolism, and might also help protect against fatty liver. The ketones are thought to alter lipid metabolism, which prevented the rats from storing fat.Theoretically, this should also work in humans, and, I have to say, that it appears to be working for me, plus others who are using the supplement offer anecdotal evidence that it’s working for them as well.

How to Take Raspberry Ketones

If in doubt, always follow the manufacturer’s dosage recommendations – or a medical professional’s directions. I started with a low 100mg dose of raspberry ketones per day for one week and saw no results. But – that was the recommended dosage on the bottle. Back I went to Google and PubMed to find more medical advice. It was very important to me to increase the dosage of raspberry ketones gradually, although some folks were taking pretty high doses.I tend to err on the side of caution – and that tendency has served me well over the years. After assuring myself that I wasn’t risking an overdose, I gradually increased my dosage to 500mg, twice a day. I’ve had no side effects whatsoever, except for a few raspberry-tasting belches about 10 minutes after I take a dose. It’s quite an interesting belch, actually, and if you experience it – be sure to let me know in the Comments Section below.Although my first few bottles of raspberry ketones said to take the supplements with a meal, I interviewed other raspberry ketone adherents and many of them said they like to take the supplement about half an hour before a meal. I decided to try that and I agree – taking the supplement before a meal seems to be of the best benefit for me. I keep a bottle with me in my car and when I eat out with friends, I take 500mg (one capsule) as soon as the waitress brings us water and that seems to work well. At home or at the office, I set my alarm on my watch to notify me 30 minutes before mealtimes.

My Personal Results and Observations

No review of a supplement is complete without the reviewer (that’s me) giving his own personal experience with the supplement. When I started taking raspberry ketones, I weighed 195 lbs. I’m 6-feet 1-inch tall, so that’s not too terribly overweight, but I like to stay trim and buff. As I mentioned before, the first couple of weeks when I took the low, 100mg-per day dose, I saw no weight loss. Also, I did not change my eating habits. I don’t eat a lot of junk food, but I tend to eat a lot because I love to eat.
As I gradually increased my daily dosage to 500mg, twice a day, I lost four pounds the first week and three pounds each the next two weeks. On the fourth week, I lost six pounds, but I also quit eating my before-bed peanut butter and honey sandwich with a glass of milk, so that might have also helped. Weeks five and six, I lost five pounds and four pounds, respectively. Note, that the only eating change was giving up the pre-bed snack.
At that point, I was getting near my target, 165-pounds, which I find is pretty good for me so I reduced my dose to 500mg of raspberry ketones only once a day – 30 minutes before my evening meal. I’ve since reduced the dose further to one, 100mg capsule, 30-minutes before my evening meal – just for “maintenance”. I haven’t regained my lost weight, but with the warmer weather, I’ve been out and about more now, so that might also play a role.

Warnings and Considerations

My general belief is that if you don’t abuse something – it’s unlikely to abuse you. I’ve read tons of research and personal testimonials saying raspberry ketones will not produce side effects, but, let’s be smart here, folks – ANYTHING can produce side effects if you abuse it.
For me, taking 500mg, twice a day, is fine. That might be too much for you. Alternately, you might be able to take more without suffering any adverse effects.
I have to say that I feel better, more alert and healthier since I lost the extra pounds. It might be my imagination, but I think I have more energy when I’m taking the ketones, too.
It’s my opinion, that if you want to lose weight, raspberry ketones are a great supplement, but they aren’t a magic pill, well, Dr. Oz claims they are, but we all know that a good diet and daily exercise are also essential for our overall health.
I strongly encourage you to visit with your own doctor before starting any new diet. This is especially important if you are diabetic or have any other current medical conditions. Right now, I buy the capsules in a 120-day supply because I’ve found that I really like them and it saves me money that way. You might want to purchase it in a smaller amount at first to see if you like it.
I’m really interested in hearing your experiences and how you pattern your own raspberry ketone program. Together, we can use our experiences to help others determine the best dietary regime for them. Thanks for visiting and please come back and share your experiences.

How to Lose Weight With Moringa

While weight loss fads come and go – occasionally something comes along that might actually be helpful in fighting the battle of the bulge. Moringa, an herb from the Moringa oleifera plant, which is native to India and Uganda, shows unusual promise. Also known as Behen, Indian horseradish or the drumstick herb, moringa comes from the leaves, root and willowy branches of the plant, which resembles a tree if allowed to grow to its full height. The leaves of the moringa are commonly harvested, dried and ground into a powder to make supplements that are widely available online or in health food stores. Moringa leaves are also considered an unusually nutritious food when steamed and eaten in the same manner you would eat spinach.I’m not a scientist, but moringa seems to be working for me so far. Through trial and error, I’ve developed my own moringa weight loss program. I’m not the type to starve myself or radically alter my lifestyle, so moringa had to fit MY lifestyle – not the other way around. In this article, I’m going to share how I use moringa and even how I grow it.

What’s in Moringa?

Morimga Tea

The very few studies completed so far on moringa indicate that the herb is safe for use by most people and it contains a high density of nutrients. There are no clinical studies, to date, on moringa’s effect on obesity, but anecdotal evidence suggests that the herb speeds up metabolism, takes the edge off voracious appetites, and produces an energetic sense of well-being.According to the PDR for Herbal Medicines, moringa contains glucosinolates, oleic acid, palmitic acid and phenol carboxylic acids. When prepared as a tea, which is the way I like to use moringa, these constituents produce an aromatic and warming effect.

How Does Moringa Help Weight Loss?

The PDR says that moringa is used for gastrointestinal complaints, but it doesn’t specify what type of complaints. It appears to have a stimulating effect on metabolism, which could cause the body to burn calories faster. If I understand the process correctly, the glucosinolates present in moringa breakdown into isothiocyanates in the body, some of which are absorbed in the intestines. This is the same type of activity that results from eating raw cruciferous vegetables, like broccoli.I can eat a little raw broccoli here and there – but I’m not a big fan, so munching on the veggie probably wouldn’t be the diet for me. In addition to a mild metabolism boost, moringa is high in protein, amino acids and beta-carotene, and it appears to be able to jump-start the circulatory system, which I figured might be beneficial to offset my occasional couch-potato behavior.

How to Use Moringa for Weight Loss

Moringa's Oval Leaflets

After reading dozens of reviews from folks that used moringa and found it beneficial for weight loss, I decided to try it myself. You have to understand that I’m not a person who hurries into anything so I decided to order seeds and grow my own moringa. This was over two years ago and I had to wait until last spring to plant the seeds. This is my second season for growing moringa, and I detail how to grow it below, but right now, I’d like to share how I use moringa and how it’s helped me drop a few pounds.I started by picking a few new leaves from my plants and munching on them. They’re not bad tasting, but they don’t taste like chocolate either, so I experimented with additional ways to consume the herb. I dried it – I ground it – I added it to soups and I eventually settled on making my own formula of moringa tea.You can use the dried moringa herb that Amazon sells, you don’t have to grow your own if you don’t want to wait a few months to start the moringa diet.

Making Moringa Tea

I make my moringa tea every night before I go to bed and I put it in the fridge to drink the next morning. I pour 2 cups of boiling water over 2 teaspoons of dried moringa leaves. I use a tea ball infuser, because I don’t want to strain the tea later. I make my tea in a Ball glass canning jar. After the liquid cools down I put the lid on the jar ( I leave the infuser in the jar) and pop the jar in the fridge.

My Moringa Tea Routine

You can experiment and develop your own moringa tea routine, but this is the one that works the best for me. First thing in the morning, I enjoy two or three cups of coffee. I don’t eat breakfast, and I tried all those diets that said I HAD to eat breakfast because it was the most important meal of the day – but they only had the effect of making me hungrier during the day. My body was telling me that I wasn’t hungry in the morning so why cram more food into my face?Anyway, I enjoy my coffee and then I get dressed, get the kids dressed and make their breakfasts. About an hour or so later, I usually start to feel a little hungry. I get my moringa tea out of the fridge and remove the infuser ball. I pour the tea over ice in a large glass and add a squirt of liquid Stevia, my favorite no-calorie natural sweetener. After enjoying my moringa tea – I wait about ten or fifteen minutes before making something to eat. That’s the only time I take moringa during the day. I experimented with taking it in the afternoon and evening, but I was unable to fall asleep quickly at night, and it didn’t seem to have any additional weight loss effect.

Weight Loss Results

I’ve come to the conclusion that all bodies are different and what works for you might not work for me and vice versa, but here are my weight loss results from taking moringa daily.I kept a log of my diet and exercise habits and during the first two months that I took moringa as a tea in the morning, I lost 13 pounds. That’s not a huge amount, but keep in mind that I didn’t do anything else different other than adding the tea to my morning routine. After two months, I added a brisk 45-minute walk every day to my routine and I lost 10 pounds in the next three weeks. Bad weather set in after that and I didn’t walk as often so my weight loss slowed down to an average of 1 to 2 pounds per week. Then, I ran out of moringa and didn’t start using it again until recently when my newest crop of moringa started producing leaves.
UPDATE: Okay, my moringa plants totally died when strong straight-line winds came swooping down and knocked the pots over, exposing the roots to the air. I might try growing more next summer but for now - I'm just going to buy the herbal tea and the capsules.

My Observations

I’m kind of hit-and-miss these days with my moringa tea, mostly because I’ve lost the extra pounds I wanted to lose. If I put on a couple of pounds, however, I’ll go back to drinking the tea for a couple of weeks.Moringa might have sped up my metabolism but it also curbed some of my cravings, specifically my cravings for sweets and carbs. Usually, I’m a bread and pastries fiend. I like donuts and I love homemade bread, fresh from the oven. When I drink the moringa tea, my cravings for carbs seem to be slightly less. I still enjoy a slice of fresh-baked bread with real butter, but I don’t take a second slice. I can easily pass up the Snickers bar I used to have mid-afternoon and I just don’t crave that bowl of ice cream that I used to crave.I can’t promise moringa will do the same for you – but I’m very interested in hearing your experiences if you decide to try my moringa tea diet.

Growing Your Own Moringa

Moringa Seeds

I live in the Midwest, so my climate gets too cold to overwinter moringa and my plants will have to come inside this fall. Last year, they died at the first frost before I could put them in pots and bring them in. This year, I planted them in large pots from the start so all I have to do is bring the pots inside and put them in my sunroom.Right now, they are healthy and still developing upright branches with small oval-shaped leaves. You can order moringa seeds from many places, but I got my best deal on eBay (see the link below).I soaked the seeds overnight in lukewarm water and then planted them in large pots in well-drained soil. I like to put a few rocks at the bottom of my pots and then add a mix of sand and garden soil on top of that. If your soil is heavy, you can add perlite or just use sterile potting mix.Cover the seeds to a depth of about ½-inch and keep damp until the seedlings sprout. After that, put the plants in a sunny place and water when the soil dries out. Moringa grows in arid climates so it doesn’t do well when overwatered, but I’ve found that the leaves shrivel if the soil gets too dry.
